Passing on Pigs in China
01 April 2009
DAXING, China—Forty-six families who received pigs from Heifer International in 2007 passed on piglets to another 46 families at a Passing on the Gift ceremony. All the families in this village, not just project members, participated. The members of this project are all women and belong to the Yi ethnic group.
After the pigs were passed to their new families, all the women who received animals tied red paper flowers to the clothes of the women who had passed them on, as the symbol of passing on the “flourishing life.”
At last, all the women joined in a local folk dance to express their happiness for the lives that have changed and their hope for a better future.
